th400 pointers and help please
i have a th400 that i am about to get my hands on from my friends garage. and from what i know it would have very minimal if any work done to it what should i do to it? i would rather do the work myself if at all possible.
its going up to a bolt on, sprayed h/c'ed 383 lt1 with forged internals so i figured why not just start out with the big boy and save my poor little 4l60e from taking a **** on me. the car is a daily driver but i would say it will be seeing less than 1000 miles a month since i am living at school right now and work literally with in walking distance and the street races are litterally down the street (also within walking distance). i was also thinking about how big i should go with the converter 4k or more or less?? i have a godzilla cam from futral motorsports, i think its a 236/241 something like that. anyways at first i was thinkin hell im scared of these things(big stalls) but the more i read about it the bigger i want! the latest with me is around a 4000 rpm stall.
as long as the car doesnt make me look like a jackass while driving it aaalllll the time i should be fine. any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. also should i be on the lookout for the rear end breaking with the stall or should i be ok... i will spray off the line eventually but i wont be making a habit of it.. unless i get really spray happy and completely trust my set up.

TH400 help
Mate you will have to at least find out how many miles that TH400 has done because if it is many then a rebuild will be in order anyway...and with that cam and i would say a 4000rpm stall you will always be noticed when driving down the street...i think it would be cool but the police may not and im sure the cops in the USA have just as little sense of humour as our(Australia's) cops do...good luck mate

Aside from replacing worn out stock parts (if needed) I would at least put in a 4L80E direct drum with a 34 element sprag and one or two extra clutches, and a transgo 1&2 kit.

You can get the drums cheap from transmission hardparts suppliers. Transmission shops online sell them for more. I'd say it would handle 600hp at least with just a rebuild and the sprag type drum.
