Are you setting any DTCs? Which ones?
When it fails to shift, can you stop, shut the ignition off, restart and boogie and all is good for a while? What year is your car?

On my 99Tahoe, I get an SES lite and the truck went into limp mode, for when I had a bad 1-2 shift solenoid.

Ive had 2 01's screw up 1-2 and 2-3 and another guy at work has had the same thing happen to 2 02's.
