Default Why switch from 200-4R(200R4)?

Why do people that did the 200-4R(200R4) transmission swap take it out and go with something else. There have been some in the for sale section. I am looking in doing the swap to a 200-4R(200R4) and want to make sure I am not making a mistake a waisting my money.
Thank you.

Like most transmissions it needs to be built correctly to last behind decent power. Im a fan of the 200 but after taking apart both the 700 and the 200 the 700 just looks like it was engineered better.

the 200 does have a good gear spread for drag racing.

Correct they are tricky to build and very dependant of the TV cable being set right .But the gear spread is good , They also require a special adapter for the VSS in 4l60e original cars. If your looking at one for the gear spread great is you dont mind spending the time to get it in there takes serveral significant changes to replace a 4l60e.
If your looking for increased durabily just get a properly performance built 4L60E.

I had a T56 in my car. Now I have a TH400 that is giving me some problems. I have the chance to buy a built 2004R from a GN for a reasonable price. I am just trying to figure out why people that did the swap to the 2004R are switching to semething else after a few mts.

probably because getting a well built 2004r is difficult and the are particular as to TV ajustment . Also setting WOT shift points are a little tricky because to work with the govenor requires removal of the pan each time

I am in the process of putting a 200-4R in my car mainly because of the better gear split. Bowtie Overdrives makes a good throttle valve cable system called TVEZ. The VSS is also easy to overcome. Magsensors sells a VSS that will screw onto the speedometer cable output. Just make sure the speedo gears are correct for your rear gear and tire size and you're set. I have an Art Carr built tranny that is built for 600hp and thats more than I will be making. If you want to know who builds the best 200's just lurk around the turbo buick boards a little.

I wouldn't mind doing the 2004r for the overdrive, but I would hate to keep pulling the tranny every time something breaks. I have a 400 right now and its a beast, just no overdrive.
