What will go first, rear or the tranny?
Ok, I'm having a 402 installed this week. With the L92 heads, L76 intake and cam selection I have I'm hoping to be in the 480-500hp range with 450-480tq. The tranny is a stock 4L60e with a 3500 Vig converter, a big tranny cooler and 90,000 miles. The rearend is a new GM 10bolt with about 10,000 miles on it and 2.73 gears, nothing else done to it.
What should I plan on buying first? I'm going to try to conserve them both for as long as possible while I save. You know, low shift points, only racing from a roll, etc. I know they will both die on me, just curious as to which you think will leave me first. Thanks
Mitchell

My vote is the tranny. It baffles me how people spend $$$ on engines and turbos and superchargers and whatnot AND THEN upgrade the tranny and rear.It should be done at the same time or if money is a slight issue, do the tranny and rear first, a peice at a time.A big motor is fun and all, but not if you cant drive the crap out of it as soon as you put it in, without worrying about breaking other parts.

Tranny for sure.. 2.73's are harder on the tranny as well and with all that power and all those miles on that tranny. My bet is the first time you stand on it the gas the tranny will show signs of slipping.

my tranny lasted a week with 460hp, and was driveable up until yesterday. now she's confined to the garage until the new tranny comes in.... dont be like me!!!

Alright, well I guess I will start tranny shopping!
As to the question to why people don't do the rear or tranny at the same time...
I blew the stock motor and a rebuild was absolutely necessary. I decided I might as well only build one engine for the car and build one I would enjoy. 200 years ago I doubt people spent a year building the strongest, most reliable, most advanced cart or buggy then had it sit there and do nothing for another year while they tried to find the fastest horse to pull it.
Should I go with a built 4L60e from a sponsor or look into a TH400 or what? This car is a daily driver that sees the HW a good 50% of it's miles.

I have a Rossler TH400 RMVB with transbrake. Strange 12 bolt with spool and 4.10s.
I have a 163k bolt on LT1 motor.
I built my drivetrain first........now I can build a mother of a motor and it won't destroy parts the first time I stand on it.
your tranny will go first and then when you get a good tranny in the car the rear will fail not long after.
Thats how mine went with just the bolt on motor.
