Default TH400 low sprag

Is there anything to be said about using a low sprag instead of a low roller in a th400?
I have the low sprag in my nova, but was wondering why they only used it in '64-'65.
The gearset has been rebuilt before the trans was built.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Is a LOW sprag better than a low roller?

Even when they went to a roller assembly, this was never a weak point. Run what you have.

I would have to agree with Dayna on this one. To be honest with you I never heard of a low sprag in this application until you posted. Thanks for the history lesson. Vince

I can post pics of a spare sprag on the center support but the only gearset I have that uses a sprag is in the car. It's smooth on the inside instead of ramped.

That's cool. I have a pretty good idea of what it looks like. I just have never built one with it. Maybe you should sell those parts on eBay for some coin!

I could have, I got a bunch of stuff from an old hardparts supplier. He had xx of hours to empty the old shop, they were taking big u haul trucks full of parts 1/2 mile down the road to the scrap metal place, getting $3000+ a truck (according to him).
He let me take a good chunk of stuff, for some reason there were th400 parts covering the floor of a 1500 sq ft room, all lined up, no cases to be seen. I ended up with some new pumps, new 4L80E direct drums and old sprag type too. Also a box of about 100+ new sun gears and sun gear shafts. and some other stuff. I got a bunch of stuff. I only left because I wore myself out carrying it all.
