trans tune. how important?

trans tune. how important? I'm getting a vig 3600 stall with cooler installed in two weeks how important is the trans tune, will it still perform to full potential at the track without the tune? 2000 A4 T/A lid/filter, 100 dry shot, weld in flow, et streets.
