Default AN fittings for tranny cooler 4L60E

Like the title says... I have the trans cooler setup out of my "old" racecar that the new owner didn't want. It is the 36k B&M (atleast I think its 36k...its the BIG one) and it has all AN fittings and -6 line. Can I make that work on my 4L60E?

You will need to -6 male to ??? pipe fittings for the case if you do not already have them. Just make sure not to over tighten them or you could break the case. Always make sure to use a wrench on both the fitting and the line when tightening them up or removing them.

Update-I need to verify the thread size for the case that we use.

yes it can be done. Im deployed right now so I dont have the fitting sizes at my disposal but what I did when I had my lines made was pull a fitting from the transmission and take it down to wherever you are gonna get the fittings or have the lines made and match it all up.I brought my tranny cooler and one fitting with me and everything was perfect

Thanks Vince, as always you are very helpful. Don't have the -6male/.5" converter yet, but I'll get them this week. I'm not going to run it through the radiator, I assume that will lose some fluid, would you suggest a deeper pan to get some of that back?

A deeper pan is always a good idea if you have the ground clearance. We sell an oem version for the trucks. Here is a link for you to see it. http://finishlinetrans.com/store/pro...products_id=30

We do offer the tci or b&m pan although it is not on the web page yet. Feel free to give us a call if you need anything. Vince

I really don't think the stock cooler fittings in the 4L60E case are pipe threads. I'm sure you can cram them in there, but they're not the correct thread. The correct thread is a straight thread designed for the 5/16 flare. Similar to a brake or power steering hydraulic fitting.

Now that I think about it I think that the fittings that we use might be 1/4 pipe. I will have to check this on monday. I think I might have been in the sun to much today.

Most of the time the case threads are a straight thread, but a tapered pipe thread will seal. Just use some teflon paste on the threads.

1/4 male pipe to -6 Male AN is what you need. Remove your stock fittings from the case and use teflon paste on the pipe threat portion when installing. Do not over tighten.

Vince what Size fittings do the 4L80E's use?? I have the SBC bolt pattern 4L80E (LT1 setup) and I am wanting to go braided lines up to my tranny cooler. Any tranny coolers with fittings or do I need to add them to my existing tranny cooler

There are coolers available with screw in type ports. The 4l80 can use these fittings as well providing that you do not have a 97 and later center lube unit. If you have this type of case, the rear fitting will have to be modified.
