I have a th400 in the car right now and I keep getting the same thing from people, always tellin me I need to get a glide in the car that it would go a lot faster, any truth to it, cuz it's got me thinking (i'm always down to find a way to go faster)! I don't see how it would make me faster, it's not like i'm not hooking. Any insight is appreciated, cuz like I said, it's got me wondering now, but I don't wanna spend the money to make the switch and not gain anything or possibly go slower when I have a perfectly good working trans in the car right now!

with the proper gear ratio and alotta power, 2 shifts are better than 3. more time saved and the power can be kept 100% to the ground.

Really, I would think the better split up gear ratio's and better first gear would be faster?

glide cars have to make alot of power or be really light for it to be benificial........... usually at least around here, glides are put in to calm a car down that likes to get crazy in the first 330'.

if your car isnt making a ton of power or isnt a feather weight i wouldnt bother. but thats just my .02 take it for what its worth

It's makin between 700 - 800 to the wheels and is kind of wild in the beginning with it's wheelies. But i'm hopin the front end limiters I put in will solve that. Raceweight with me is in the 3500 - 3600 range and it has 3.73's with 28" ET Drags (goes through the traps right on the shift light, so I have a little room to grow as I can still run her out a few hundred more rpm w/o really falling off), everything being the same, gear/tire, converter, would the car go faster with a glide?

I'd leave your T400 alone and pull some weight out of the car.

Yea I believe your car is a little too heavy for a glide. I have always heard it needs to be 3200lbs and under for a glide.

I've actually got a lot of weight out of the car, with nothing in it, it's in the 31xx range, but then I put two full 15 lb bottles, and my 300 lb *** and the raceweight skyrockets!

Your car is way too heavy, and doesn't have the h.p. for a glide. Keep the 400. You'll be pissed when you swap, and the car slows down. Now, if the car weighed about 600lbs less, it would be a different story.

That's the biggest thing I was worried about, I wish someone had a glide I could borrow to try just to see, haha!

I swapped to a glide this year, actually picked up. (ATI Glide / ATI Converter)
You must have a good converter and the right cam that will keep you in the power band. The splits can kill your ET if you don't have a good combination.
I shift at 6800-6900 and it drops to around 5450.

I hear it both ways, car to heavy, you will slow down. blah blah blah.
My car does not 60' near as good but after the 60' the car pulls like no other. My 60's were in the high 1.4's now high 1.5's to a more common low 1.6's. I had been warned by a lot of people that my ET would drop, but it did not. Just lucky for me I guess.

I'm not going to say that you will pick up or not but the glide is a very effecient transmission getting close to the same power loss as a standard. Plus you can beat on one of these weekend and week out and it will just keep on running.

Oh, my weight is 3350 with me in it.
