Default Stall and stock gears

I have a 99 T/A A4 with a 2.73 gear ratio. What advantage could i see by going with like a 2500-3000 stall converter and not switching gears? Also how much would it affect my daily driver if at all?

A 2800-3000 stall will knock off .3-.4 tenths int he 1/4 mile. That is with some drag tire.I have 2.73 and I just hate them now. There godd higway gear but 2nd gear sucks.I am changing to 3.42.I will let you know how it is.Ive seen that you have some juice. Are you on the stock 4l60e?I wiould built it if I where you especially since you want a stall.A 2800stall should not give you any trouble but I would wait till the tranny took a **** because a install is from 250- 400 bucks

I thought about doing 3.23's in mine. Afraid 3.42 would be to low. My brother has a Z with 3.42's and he said he wished he hadn't went as low. It would be alot harder to hook up especially with a stall converter. I'm happy with mine now as far as pullout but like you said when it hits second there is a definate lag till the rpm's can get back up. That's why I also thought a stall would help, and you would still have a good highway gear. Any thoughts?

yeah the tranny is stock. haven't had any problems out of it (yet) as far as slipping or anything and yeah a rebuild would'nt be a bad idea espically if i were
to do any serious mods to the tranny. I previously had a 96' T/A that I switched out the 2.73 gears for 3.73's. It was fun for about a month or so and then I thought it was too low of a gearing and I started to get some gear whine. I'll probably go with a 3.23 or 3.42 and just be done with it.

A 3000 stall will make your 2.73s feel soooo much faster. Easy to hook for stoplight racing too.

I'm running a 3.42, un-stalled and I still would rather have a stall over gears any day!
