4000 Stall Too Much?

Default 4000 Stall Too Much?

I read on the Yank website that an aggressive heads/cam car with 3.73s should run a 4000 stall. Would this be a pain in the *** in a daily driver or would it be easy to drive on the street? I'm talking every day, trips to the bank, McDonald's, crusing around, etc. Is a 4000 too much?

Also, the car will be only bolt-ons for a while but the plan is for an aggressive H/C setup. Will the 4000 still be okay for a bolt-on, geared car?

It all depends on your tolerance level. I have a 4000SS, I originally had a 3600 stall, and went up on the stall rpm when the opportunity arose. Im not going to lie to you, it don't drive stock, just ask the few who have driven my car. But to me, Ive gotten totally used to it and dont even know one is in there. One thing tho... it is definitely like stock when it locks up just cruising.

I have never even been in a stalled f-body but I assume that it would simply require more throttle to get the car moving from stop signs and traffic lights. But once you are moving it will drive pretty normally as long as you give it a bit more gas, right? Sounds good to me if that is the case.

you will be fine, but I would go 4200+

I'd like some more input on how streetable a 4000 is if you guys don't mind. Either that or some vids. I thought I saw one on here one time and the guy had like a 3500 stall and it seemed pretty streetable.

Have you tried to call them??
I called them and told them everything that i want to do and we came up with a 3800 or 4000 i'm going to go with a 4000.
buy it and put it in and if you dont like it sale it to me half off but i think you will like it. My friend had a 3600 yank and it ran fine. i told him to go bigger.

I had 4.10's & a 3600 with my old ls1. When I got the 408 with this big cam, I went to 3.73's & a Yank PT4000. It definately needs more to get it moving. Sometimes it sounds like you are getting on it when you are hardly moving. Like everything else, you get used to it. The 3600 was not as noticeable. This is the only VIDEO I have so far. I dont know if you can really tell from it.

I have a 4000 stall with 3.73 gears and a really small cam. (MS3 going in tomorrow) Still street friendly. Seems like Im at the gas pumps a lot more with the 4000 stall. It takes more throttle to get going and sounds like Im getting on it all the time. If you want a video of my car driving let me know I can get one before I take it apart tomorrow.

I have a PT4000 with 3.73's and it's not that bad. The key is tuning the transmission for better part-throttle driveability. As mentioned above, it also depends on your tolerance. Years ago, I started with a 3200, then to a 3800 and now 4000.

I wouldn't want to drive a 4000 stall daily, but that's just me. For me, my 3000 is enough.

I have been through several converters ranging from 3000 to 4000 stalls. The axle gear ratio does play a role in the converter selection. I daily drive my car with the Yank SS4000 and have driven it half way across the country. The converter drives really well with 3.73's and pulls like a **** at WOT.

I bet that will suck this summer. Thanks for the offer but I found a few vids on vid.ls1tech or whatever and it seems like a 4000 is doable for street driving. With a loud exhaust you'll damn sure draw attention to yourself though, lol. I think I'll go with the 4000 and if I end up hating it I can always sell it and get a 3500 or something.

LOL, no kidding. I also noticed on those vids that the tires went up in smoke with ease. I was thinking about getting some 18" ROH RT wheels a while back but I don't think I will now. Do they even make a 18" drag radial? The biggest I've seen is 17"

I have a Yank SS4000 with 3.23's and basic bolt-ons and I love it. I believe it would be better with 3.73's, but I am very happy with the performance and everyday drivability with my minimal mods. I started with a Yank ST3500 and upgraded to this when I had the chance. My next converter will probably be a PT4400.

I agree. Now that I have a 4k stall I dont know how I ever drove a car with less. It's nothing at all to fear. I just to get my p/t tune and ill be good as gold. In all honesty I wish I wouldve gone higher like a 4400.

to get moving like a non stall car i have to hit 3,100 in first.. 3,100-3,200 for second how is this daily driveable w/ gas and such??

my stall is a vig 2800 restalled to 3600-3700 (dont actauly know)

The 3200 was great in my DD, I'm getting used to the extra revs in the 4000.
Once it locks up, it's very much like stock.
I notice it most in parking garages and other places when you drive at low speeds with
short distances between stops.

ive got a 4400 vig and 3.23's and i could drive it daily. its really not bad at all. and i restalled it to 4400 from 3200 and its not that much of a differnece until you nail it. and i dont have o/d or lockup....
