I don't know about you farm boy's sometimes. I did talk to a guy that used diff fluid to get rid of a lock up chatter in a Ford AODE. He use to use about a quart to fix the chatter. I thinks you need to change the converter.

i have been doing some research on another site. found out a lot of guys use tractor fluid like hi-tran or the john deer equlivent. aparently it takes the heat better and lasts a very long time. some of the fastest mustangs use it.

a couple of quotes.

"We just went from a dextron III to a 70/30 mix of case hytran/dextron III and transbrake stall went from 6100 to 5800 have not raced it yet should know in a week"

"everybody says yes but iv'e never tried two different types of fluid some say it helps couple the converter on top end better, and lowers the stall because its thicker.

Yes, we've seen about 200rpm less flash stall and 250-300 less stall at boost. "

"I found switching to the tractor fluid in my c4 really helped my converter tighten up on the big end."

i just got done reading about 20 pages so far on the subject and the only down side is it firms up the shifts a lot. maybe too much for some set ups. we are going to give it a shot on the pinks car and see what it does. if we can get 300rpm less stall out of it and then bump the rpm range of themotor up a hair we might be in fat city. i will report back on how it effects the stall speed and shift extentions.

I run 303 tractor fluid in all our trannys. They are showing about 20 degree temp loss, and the clutches are perfect after 125 passes.

from what i am reading it helps the most with heat. people with tranny brakes seem to benifit from it the most. they say it runs cooler and will take the heat better when it does get hot. also less foaming.

the reason we are looking at it is to adjust the stall speed a little. if we can knock 300rpm out of the stall with just a fluid change that would be bad ***.

in my truck tranny i will use whatever chuck and vince tell me too dex3. not going to experiment with that unit

i ran hi-trans ultra in my th400 and it holds up very well. i didn't run anything but that in it so i don't know about the stall difference. i know several guys who have been running that fluid for many years and they say it keeps the heat down.

Well thicker fluild would affect stall speed, But I can tell you this , When I was younger and myself and a freind of mine got the idea to use air craft hydraulic fluild well it was pretty blue but it also turned the seals into in about two days lol

For many years I used the Cat fluid in different mixes with Dexron III, depending on the type of driving and which transmission was being used, and it worked very well. In the last few years, I (and some other performance trans builders) have used Lubrication Engineers Monolec 7500. This fluid has worked very well in extreme duty situations, such as road racing, or where the HP goes above 750. It runs cooler, does not foam, etc. This fluid is not a hydraulic fluid. I have seen only one side effect, when the outside temperature is very cold, the transmission will shift late for the first couple of miles.

The fluid you installed was Skydrol. Its an ester based fluid and will eat almost anything......including seals not meant to be used with that type fluid. OOOOps

Normally thicker/heavier fluid results in HP loss as it takes more effort to pump. I can see making the tradeoff if it reduces failure, but as means to lower stall speed it seems like swapping converters is a still a better option.
