Default TH350 reverse and 2nd gear not working???

Well i just got through installing my TH350 into my 99 trans am and started it. Well i was going to run through the gears with the rear on jackstands just to make sure its all good.

Well i got from park to reverse and nothing happens we were thinking it was something to do with the linkage. So i told my brother to get out and do it manually on the side of the transmission. Well reverse still didnt work, so we put it in 1st and it works. Shift to second but it does nothing, then shift it to 3rd and it shifts

We put 2 gallons and a quart total in the transmission and torque converter. So thats not the problem. Im all out of ideas and wanted to see if anyone on here has had this problem and maybe they would know how to fix it im ready to drive my car.

Its supposed to have a full reverse manual valve body along with a pro transbrake. Here is where i bought the transmission from just for reference. Jackson Performance transmissions http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2352632&rd=1,1
I wanted a nicely built one to take the place of the 4LshittyE and guess i cant dodge a broke a transmission.

Thanks
B.J.

Well I know some transbrakes require you to activate them in order to move backward.
On second gear though thats not good unless theres some issue with the valve body I can only think of something being wrong with the intermediate clutch or sprag.
As for troubles with transmissions they happen with any kind , I was around back when the TH350 and 400 was all there was and trust me they got wrecked alot to. I did in several myself in my early years 16 -21 lol. Funny thing is in real numbers the cars back then were not making the power of the cars today,
But good luck and I would call the manufacturer first and see what they can tell you.

How big is your stall? You might want to give it a try on the road first since it can't hurt at this point. Sometimes you can't really tell if it's shifting right or not with a big stall and the wheels in the air. As for reverse Performabuilt is probably right. You'll either have to put it in N or R and push the transbrake button in order to apply reverse.

for reverse to work push the trans brake while shifter is in R. no second gear sounds like the Intermediate sprag was installed backwards. i had the same problem once apun a time.

You won't have auto 2nd gear on a TH350 or 400 on jackstands, there is no load on the sprag. You should have manual 2nd gear.
