I know that in 2004 the transmission case changed where the pump gasket area is. It is important when rebuilding these 04 and later units that you have the correct pump or a modified one from an earlier center lube unit. As far as any other changes the epc/pcs solenoid changed along with the internal harness but can retro back to any year as long as it is used together. I'm not sure about the output shaft but this is about the only thing that might effect the install. I like to build these units with the long spline output shaft to allow a little more yoke spline area to be used. Hope this helps. Vince

From what I've seen vans usually use slip yokes and trucks use bolt on yokes.
The vans I've seen also have output shafts with splines all the way up to the rear bushing, you cannot use a bolt on yoke on one of these.

The trucks have an output shaft with a shoulder just like most 32 spline th400 outputs. On these you have to use a th400 type slip yoke or the bolt on yoke.

So if you're doing a swap and plan to use a slip yoke tell the salvage yard it's for a custom swap vehicle and the difference doesn't effect what you're going to use it for.

I picked up a 2005 4L80E from an express van on Saturday, I can confirm it does have the slip style yoke. The swap I will be doing will be from a Gen 1 383 SBC with a TH400 to a LQ4 and the 4L80E, I already have a HD drive shaft, it would be sweet if I only had to shorten the shaft, It already has a HD aftermarket slip yoke. I believe the code on my 4L80E was MT1.
