Yank SS3600 on the way!!! What should I expect??
You are talking to a guy who has owned mostly manual cars. So Im new to the auto world. My former cars have been pretty heavily modded, but my current LS1 car is just a bolt on car for now. Ive been reading up on auto trannies and converters for a while, so I have a good basic understanding of how a converter works. I just havent had first hand experience yet. But from what Ive read, the SS3600 will suit my needs just fine. My car is pretty much a daily driver, mostly street driven, occasional trip to the track. Id like to hear opinions and reviews on this converter in particular, and also just basic info on what I should expect (seat of the pants feel, horsepower/torque gained if any, driveability, gas mileage, etc.) Im already anticipating needing new tires cuz Im sitting on Sumitomos right now I guess I'll have a fun weekend fryin them off the car Thanks in advance for the help fellas

My driveability feeling is not much different from stock. Gas milage will suffer around town and shouldnt affect highway driving. One of the biggest differences I can tell is racing from a roll like a 30-40roll there is no hesitation just hit the gas and feel it pull.I have no other converter to compare with,I got a trans cooler and deep pan to keep it cool too.

It will feel different at first, but you will get use to it real fast. I would get a tune, because I kept bouncing off the limiter at wot. Also, get a tranny cooler... really easy to install and will help keep it together.
As far as performance... This converter is so nice. No more dead spots. I need new tires really bad, so I have not felt this thing all the way. I don't get traction under 55mph, but that will change with better tires. It is hard to explain how the car feels, but once you go wot you will know what everyone is talking about. Awesome converter, and you will feel a difference.

its a night and day difference. when you feel it your gonna kick yourself for not doing it sooner. been driving mine for about a month and love it. no more dead spots at all, gets up there real fast. and i know what you mean about the sumitomos lol. from a stop the power is insane. good luck with it. and yes, gas mileage does go down, but its worth it.

You will love it! I just got my car back and had the SS3600 and 3:73s installed and it's a BEAST. No dead spots anymore anywhere in the powerband and SOTP is nothing short of impressive. I'm still taking it easy because of my new diff and havent gone WOT yet, but I know drag radials are a must now. Enjoy it man!

Thanks a bunch fellas. I am so excited cuz I dont know what to expect. I have the stock 3.23 gears now so Im wondering if 3.73s will be in my future. I hear they make more of a difference when u add gears to a bigger converter than just adding gears with the stock converter. Is there any truth to this? Will I want to go with 3.73s??

I had a Yank ST3500 and now a SS4000 and I loved them both. The 3500 was great, but not big enough. The SS4000 is awesome. I have 3.23's and it's nice and tight. I will upgrade to 3.73's eventually, but it is fine for now. You'll love the low-end pull. I can hook from a 15 MPH roll and it is INSANE how it pulls from there. You'll love it. Hands down single best mod for the A4.
