Default Can a stall hurt you top end and mph?

I installed a tci 3000 stall, it feels like it hurt my top end. I never went to the track before I put the stall in so I can't really compare it to numbers. Also its a 3000 stall but it will pull the brakes at about 2400, I do have a stock cam and weight reduction. Could this be why? I'm gonna install an ms4 cam in about a month, it should stall higher with that cam right. I'm just thinking because it won't have as much power as my stock cam at 24oo rpm. Please help me if you have knowledge about this thanks

I doubt that converter hurt your top end, it didn't lose me any MPH
and it was 97+% efficient up at 6000 and over 95% after 5000 or so.
Probably what you feel is the torque multiplication fade, against a
higher than stock initial. Big kick early and nothing left for later with
the 2.2 STR.

Some people with a lower quality, or incorrectly sized converter do lose MPH.

Subjective testing isn't good enough though, you really have to get back to back numbers.

As far as the cam goes, anytime you change the powerband of your engine it will affect the stall speed. In your case it should increase a bit, however weight reduction will do the opposite.

Oh no. This has me worried since my PY3600 that I'll be putting in my 4L80e is a 2.5 STR.

Is tci a good converter? The main factor in me asking this question isn't really because the seat of pants felt weaker at top end. I raced a zo6 on the street with stock converter and pulled him the whole 1/4. About 1 mth later after the stall was put in we raced again at the track in the 1/8th. Right at the end he was starting to catch me, but he does have stock 2:73 gear and I have 3:73 so I had to shift to 3rd and he didn't. But I pulled the whole time on him before it seemed like more the faster we went. O and he made no changes between races.

Lower str equals higher efficency ,Higher on the other hand can give you better launches 60 ft times

Z06's don't have 2.73's....they have 3.42's. Like Jimmy said, the bigger STR's are "felt" off the hit. After that, they feel like they run out of breath. My SS4000 has a 2.6 STR and it feels awesome down low. Up top, it still pulls pretty good, but it doesn't feel like it.

Working with different torque converter companies over the last 28+ years, you get an idea or what works and what does not. For comparison purposes, comparing a 4L60E with a 12" TC apx. 1,800 rpm stall, stock NA motor, and 3.73's, to a 9.5" TC and trying to keep the mph the same, you will find that the STR cannot be much if any over 1.8-1.9. I'm only interested here in "keeping" the mph the same, as I am a believer in "keeping" the mph up. From this point I try to make changes that will improve both ends (a drop in ET & and an improvement in mph). Now you have to decide on what you want. Are you willing to sacrifice mph in favor of a better ET only. In the 1/8 mile, the ET is about all that is focused on, so the higher the STR the better. In the 1/4 mile, this is somewhat different, and becomes a tradeoff. On the street, I have found the lower STR (1.8-1.9) can be better, especially when racing from a roll. With higher rear end gear ratios (2.73, 2.93, 3.08's) a higher STR can have a better throttle response at lower speeds, without to much off a tradeoff on the big end. There are always exceptions to what I have said here, but I have found that this has worked very well for me and others over the years.
