Default 4L60E bouncing off rev limiter WOT 2-3 shift?

I just purchased my T/A around a month ago and the transmission bounces off of the rev limiter whenever it attempts to make a 2-3 WOT shift. Is this normal for the 4L60E or is the Trans on it’s way out? The car is completely stock and has around 80,000 miles on it. The fluid looks fresh and is right above full.

If the car is stock without a tune or a stall converter, I would have to say that you are having a 3-4 clutch failure. Vince

Vince, what if this was happening on a 4l60 with a stall?

I would agree with vince on the stock trans, As for the stall while it could still be a 3-4 clutch issue. I would check the tune first if it has not been done

It would be the same thing. My stock tranny had the same problem. My first built tranny had a broken internal that fried every forward clutch. My current one bounces off the limiter at WOT but drive fine under normal driving conditions.

welcome to the broken transmission club. I'm currently in the market for a new trans myself. As was said check the tune first. If you have a stalled car then you need to make 100% that the tune is right. If you have a stock trans and stock TC, that either your solenoid went bad. Maybe something clogged in the screen that filters the solenoid causing it to read a false reading?? Or just the solenoid went bad all together. Could be a lot of things IE 2-3 bands, 3-4 clutches. when things go wrong, trust me they go WRONG. If your able to drive part throttle then try to baby the car. I would just save for a rebuild and go to a GOOD NAMED shop to get it done, just b.c the guy says he can build a trans doesn't mean crap. I went threw that twice.

Check the tune and then if you need a new trans give Vince a call. Mine shifts so good it makes my butt smile every time I drive it.

Do you mean a 700r4 or a 4l60e?

4l60e. It will shift at part throttle (maybe 3/4) not WOT. Think a shift kit would fix it? Trans on the way out? Tried everything with the tune.

Still not nearly as bad as my trans 1-2 shift.

In your case I believe you need a new trans. Your 1-2 is in really bad shape if I remember correctly. That's probably why you have one on order.

My o2 Z28 bounced off the rev limiter since car was new.. not every time, but certain conditions caused it at WOT. Usually sputters and then shifts, I adjusted shift points with the predator tuner and made it better. Added a 3400 stall and it does it also, but only at WOT and not every time. I have made over 200 passed and put 40k miles on the car and transmission is the same as when new. On cool days when the car is running great is normally when it bounces off the limiter and hasn't happened really on the street, is always at the 1/4 track.

Im currently going through the same problem but with my 1-2 shift. Except mine is funny because on the street WOT on the 28in tires it shifts 1-2 fine. But on track it will get up on the limiter. Ive tried everything I know with the tune but Im at a loss. Im currently looking to do the following mods. The tranny is a 4L65E also Tranny sponsors let me know if Im leaving anything out
Transgo Shift Kit
Transgo Manual Valvebody
Super 2nd and 4th gear Servos, Beast Sunshell,Upgraded 3-4clutch pack & HD 2-4 Red Band. Is there anything that Im leaving out??

On a 1-2 shift issue I would look at the tune first , i know your ajusting the MPH tables but what about the RPM I would lower both. If that does not fix it you have a trans problem that a shift kit will not likley fix .Burned band likley .

Mine was usually pretty tight until a couple weeks ago. Probably a little slow though.
Lowering the mph and rpm might help his situation with a tune. A shift kit might help because went installing it you will be increasing the feed hole for the 3rd gear circuit. Might be worth trying these things first however he might be in the same boat as you. Vince

One of my friends had the same problem... He said it was a $13 shift soleniod. it should be real easy to replace those too.

Thanks for the info, The Trans shifts and works great under all other conditions and the 1-2 shift is firm enough to chirp the tires at WOT however I have noticed the RPM’s increase and it slowly goes into gear on any somewhat aggressive 2-3 shift.

Is this a sure indication of fried clutches? Would you recommend I take it somewhere to be inspected or just start looking for a replacement? I am new to auto’s and trying to learn fast.

Thanks,

Dave

I am having similar problem's, but my shift point's have not been changed since the fi as been applied. The only thing that get's me is the tran's will not even shift when i shift the car manually?I have to let off the gas and then it shift's!

It could be fried clutches but usually the 1-2 goes first... I would check those shift solenoids first. they are cheap and easy to replace. far easier and cheaper then the clutches.

Default In Overdrive?

Whom, funny..Are you shifting through the gears yourself or is the computer doing it. and is it in drive or overdrive? Because Myself and my buddy had this similar problem on our cars one an '00 B4C camaro and '02 35th. And a kid we met at the track in epping NH told us to keep it in overdrive and it will not do that. What a difference it made i thought for sure i was slipping my tranny already. This was back in '05 and i had just taken delivery of the 35th.

My close to stock lt1 car does the same exact thing no shift outta first or second at WOT. Grinds and slips and makes noise on downshifts also.
