4L60E disassembly
Sorry for posting a truck app on the car forum, but I figured I'd get more action over here.
Long story short, busted 4L60E....Well, after being jacked around by a local wrecking yard (the transmission I picked up from them had dirt embeded in the input shaft splines and inside the torque converter), I've decided to take a shot at rebuilding the 4L60E transmision from my Tahoe myself or at least disassembling it myself first. I'm about halfway done getting the internal components out but can't seem to be able to get the Input Sun Gear to pull out off of the output shaft.
Can anyone recall if there is a trick to this or if I just need to go rent a puller to pull it off the shaft? There isn't much detail about this in the ATSG manual. It's a 97 4wd 4L60E btw...

i the sun gear wont come off that means that the sun or the planets are damaged they do make a puller for getting that off when its damaged....but you should be able to just slide it off but the gear is damaged and that is why its not coming off..

The problem with a bone yard unit is some of them are there for a good reason !! You can do a little checkout on a unit by taking a pair of channel locks with you an take the trans out of park and you should be able to turn the output shaft in both directions , a little more resistance will be felt in 1 direction as you are turning the entire gear train . the one you tore down wouldnt have turned !! Have fun and good luck . John
