Anyone have any lockup issues with any yank converter? (specifically ss4000)
TWO buddies of mine bought verters (ss4000) back sometime in october of 06, installed the verters, then put the cars away for the winter, put maybe 100 miles on em, just break in. Now, one car has been on the road for about 200 miles, and it wont lockup. The other buddy broke it in, dynoed, worked BEAUTIFULLY, then over night just stopped locking up.
WE HAVE EXAHUSTED ALL THE PCM BS. IT IS NOT THE PCM! It went from working to NOT over night, we also re-flashed the pcm's with different tunes, reset the pcm, deleted codes, cleared the DTC's (of which there were none) EVEN TRIED TO USE THE MANUAL LOCKUP WITH HPTUNERS IN THE SCAN SOFTWARE.
Anyone else expereincing these issues?
Thanks!

Well to truly make a diagnosis of trans/converter or tune you would need to do one more test since even though you can use the tuner to comand lockup this does not nessesarily mean it will take the comand , For instance you cant overide an engine missfire code.
The most final way to determine the PCM/TUNE verses the TRANS/CONVERTER is this, at the trans harness you can also find them at the PCM set up a switch to ground the tan wire with the black strip and the brown wire. Do this only while moving down the road even at low speed. If you get lockup with these two wires grounded you have a PCM/TUNING issue. If it does not lock with them grounded you have a TRANS/CONVERTER issue.

I had the exact same problem. I could not figure out what was wrong and then one day my entire tranny took a **** on me. Come to find out it was the lock up clutch was completly shredded up.

Maybe try a different new converter. This will at least verify if the converter has an issue. If you would like pull the trans and converter and bring it by the shop. I will be more than happy to put them on the dyno as a combo. If it does not lock up then we will try my DYNO test converter and see what happens. By the way I like your sig. Take care bud. Vince

Vince, you are the man! I forgot all about the lockup switches of the "old days" (before hptuners and such). I will give that a shot tonight! And thanks for the offer about the dyno testing, you guys are the best which is why we all come to you.
For the record, they have ss4000's in cars that are making 410rwhp and 430rwhp...is that too much for the lockup in that stall? Could it just be over powering it and ripping it to shreds?

Oh one other thing, we have the misfire detection set to enable at like 255 degrees and disable at 256 degrees. So unless I am mistaken...it shouldnt even be running the tests...is this correct?
Also, I checked the tables on one of the cars, all the tables were maxed out...and one last question...if the SES light isnt flashing, doesnt that mean there are no misfires? Or is this just different than the misfire blink I am thinking of?

Your welcome, Thats just the easiest test I know of to eliminate a converter/trans issue when it comes to lockup. Since lockup issues can be difficult to figure out. Thats usualy my first test after I cant find and easy reason code etc. I am inclined to beleave that its going to be a tuning/code issue because generally if the PCM comands lockup and it dosent happen you will set a code po1870 for componet slipping when the PCM sees the RPM differential due to the converter stall.
