Default if your trans fluid smells like.......

a camel's armpit, does it mean that your tranny is definately toast? i have a 4l60e that i got with my motor and was about to install it yesterday when i noticed the smell. the fluid is pretty brown. im wondering if this necessarily means that the tranny is done. i dont want to waste my time installing it and putting a shift kit in it if its already gone.

If the fluid smells bad that is usually the 1st indication of clutch failure.

Use caution... how many miles are on it? Sounds like you have a unit that is toast to me. If it is out, I would not hesitate to have it at least freshened up / rebuilt.

Good Luck.
