Default Is it normal for a rmvb th350 to shift automatically after failure

My freshly rebuilt th350 lost it's second gear after 20 or so miles of normal driving. Everything at first worked fine and suddently when shifting into 2nd the trans automatically went into third on its own, without even shifting into third. First was fine and then I drop into second and it would catch for a little bit and shift into third by itself. I was thinking, shouldnt it, on a manual valve body just free rev untill i shift into another gear when it goes out.

actually in a manual valve body if you shift to second or back to second and the intermediate clutch was bad it should be in first not third.

No I dont think so with the manual VB the low reverse clutch is turned on in first gear if the direct clutch was weilded up it would cause a no movement in 1st. direct+forward+low/reverse = TRANSBRAKE

I see, intermediate clutch. I knew it.. Thanks performabuilt.

Im I right in saying that premature failure in the intermediate clutch would be due to incorrect install of the band, pressure plate, friction / steel plates, or springs.

My guess would be that the intermediate race or roller clutch broke.
