Why cant anything go as planned?
Got the tranny under the car last night and up on the jack. I flushed the cooler lines out today and got the torque arm mount back on the tranny.
But I've been trying to get the converter engaged fully for the last 1 hr.
I'm giving up for the night. If i could that stupid converter on I could of had it all bolted up now. ARRRR.

Installing the converter can sometimes be a pain , If you fail with the trans side ways dont try it to long you can damage the bushing , Stand the trans on its end with a rag of course under the tail shaft and spin the converter , That generally works when all else has failed

I think that is what I'm going to have to do. I just really dont want to have to pull it off the jack and back out from under the car agian. It will be hard getting it back up under there and on the jack without the converter falling also.

Yeah hanging converters can be difficult.
Definately though, get it into a position where you can support it properly, get some leverage, as you can damage the bushing as Frank said.
Cracked a fresh one open just now as a matter of fact!
Good Luck!

What bushing are you guys talking about? And how do you damage it? I can get it on the first set of splines, just can not get anywhere after that.

Yessir, like he said it will create a potential leak.
Take the pilot hub in one hand and gently wiggle it up and down...gently. While doing that rotate it... a bunch... if it is horizontal. The trick is to try to keep it centered, that's why standing it up can be useful.

I never had a problem doing it the horizontal way, I got the converter to engage on the 1st set of splines gave it a couple of twists and wiggled it a bit and soon enough the converter was fully seated into the pump. Drove 12,000miles with no leaks (knock on wood) just keep trying you will get it. Good luck!

Has the converter been installed in this transmission before ? If not you may have the wrong one ,LT units and later LS units have different spline set ups because of different length input drum/shafts And the converters are different onthe engine side as well. Also take a small screwdriver or pick and make sure you can turn the pump rotor !!!!!!!!

Yes I can turn the pump rotor, it is a TH350 that was just built last week. As far as the converter, a local shop built it for me. I had the same converter in my 700R4, they just modified it to fit my TH350. They took out the lockup clutch, and put the correct lengh hub on it. At least thats what I think they did, I wasn't paying that much attention. But no it has not been installed in this tranny yet.
