Default Overdrive

This may be a stupid question, but I am new to automatics. Does leaving my car in D vs D(with square around it) mean that the car will not shift into fourth gear, and only use the first 3 gears? I am confused

Ok you have 4 positions for forward gears the first one you come to after neutral has 1-2-3-4 and id ussually marked D or OD, The next back has 1-2-3 and is marked 3 OR D so if you mean this one then yes you would only have three gears.
Hope this helps

Well OD the one with square really the only time you generally would want to use D is like driving down mountains etc.
