Ok generally is you get limp without a code it can be the B+ line fuse is blown , But try and decribe in more detail how it acts please.

Can you decribe " ..olimp-in or something". Sounds like it is not upshifting properly, which can be caused by a myriad of problems.

Also, what is the fluid condition?

last friday i was driving my car the trans was shift fine all day. then i was leaving my house driving normal the trans shifted through all the gears and locked up. about 30 seconds after it locked up it shifted down to second gear like it went into limpin mode. I have checked all my connections and the fluid is clean and bright red and is on the full mark. the car has 74,000 miles on it, the yank stall and shift have about 5k miles on it. Before this started i havent had a problem out of the tranny. I haven't done any tuning to the car either.

I would have a shop or someone with a tuner look at the data stream on the car and see whats happening and again I would check the fuses

Wow! Locked up, as in the car stopped or jerk violently... which would imply a sprag or geartrain issue?

Or locked up as in would not upshift or downshift... which would imply an intermittant electrical issue?

I have not seen a 4L60E go to 2nd gear in a Limp mode, 3rd maybe. However, I have do know Chrysler A604 based units do.

What happens when you cycle the key off then restart it?

I may be mistaken but I think he ment it went through all the gears and converter lock up then down shifted to limp mode. Its the no codes part thats odd though. Makes me think it may have blown a fuse. I have seen that and a bad ignition switch cause limp like condition with no codes or SES light.

It is hard to understand symptoms over the internet. That is why I ask the questions I do. In the interest of getting it right asap without so much banter back and forth. I don't like making assumptions, most of the time they are wrong.

the torque converter locked up then it when into 2 or 3 gear. if i cycle the key it doesnt change anything. i can leave the car in drive and it will still pull it self but if i put it in od it just revs up like the 3 to 4 valve is stuck.

Interesting that it would lock up at such a low speed. Can you verify that indeed L/U is being commanded at such a low speed and low gear?

Also, if the manual lever is in O/D (4th) at a stop... does it pull normally or just freewheel?

I am thinking it is shifting 1st to 3rd. If that is the case the you have a problem with the band, servo, accumulator circuits etc... that would account for no change when the key is cycled.

So the car in the OD position will pull itself from a dead stop? Will it change from 1-2-3 in the OD position?
Anyway if you could give a complete description of driving the car you start with the car in OVERDRIVE position and take off what happens at each gear ? Or call me and explain which might be easier .

in od starting from a dead stop will take off then shift into second gear then when it suppost to shift into third gear it revs up. if i pull the shifter down to drive it will pull itself but it never seems to shift into third gear. The trans hasn't been slipping and has been shift fine until now.

this is the second time it has done this to me. The first time it did this to me i just cleared the codes, but i couldnt read the trans codes with the scanner i had. it fixed the problem for a day or two.

Ok i beleave you have a failed 3-4 clutch pack would be my bet. Your going to either be going into the trans or replacing it , Please if you decide to go the replacement route take a look at what we have to offer.

Yeah, hearing that it makes the 1-2 shift but no 2-3 indicates that the 3/4 clutches have failed.

Other than the converter and gears what mods does your car have?

Thanks for the reply,

I do believe that your transmission has lost the 3/4 clutch pack. It is a very common failure in 4L60E's as you might well know.

Feel free to call us and discuss options.

Interesting. Any idea where that debris came from, clutch material or metal?

Be sure to flush the cooler very well before hooking the lines up!
