Default Best Aftermarket flexplate?? you tell me

my oem flex plate is cracked and i need a new one.
i know having a lightweight flywheel helps your engine rev faster.
do they make lighter weight flex plates or are they all the same.
And good brands i should buy?

You want a stronger flexplate......it won't be lighter. I have a TCI on my car. Some people have had problems with them because of the coating that they put on them, but I think that is fixed now. The coating would wear down and the bolts would loosen up.....................just grind the coating off around the bolt holes to be sure.

There are other aftermarket ones, but I can't think of names right now......try a search if it works.

Also, a stock 98 model flexplate is supposed to be strong.......it will have round holes in it.

hope his helps

You should look into Meziere... If you want the best that one is the best... It doesn't have the ring gear welded on... it's cut directly into the metal itself and it's thicker metal that is much stronger than stock stuff..

Yep , they call it Billet! We run a Meziere unit on the ACE Racing / Zodiac Racing Top Sportsman engine in the car on our homepage.

It is probably a bit overkill for an average below 750 H/P street engine though. A stock unit would work Chris, did you find a Pioneer like I suggested last night on the phone?

But as you have it apart and time is on your side... definatley look at all your options.... exotic Billet all the way to stock... with every one in between! Lot's to choose from!

When choosing parts such as a flexplate there are many options. A certified plate is always the best bet. But if it is not going to be making more than say 450 h/p a certified plate is not necessary. If however the transmission is out of the way and there are plans for engine upgrades down the road, that would be the time to upgrade to a much stronger plate!

Here is the Pioneer part # straight out of their catalog...FRA- 471.

Good Luck!
