B&M Shift kit good?????
#2
What are you trying to accomplish. Durability, shift firmness, reliabilty or are you looking to just simply pit a shift kit in the tranmission? I have not responded to your posts yet Chris because I was hoping someone lse would ask what you are looking for... That is the defining question when asking which shift kit to use.
The kit you need, one that will give you the best service for years to come..... is a Trans Go HD-2 Reprogramming kit. The problem is it requires complete disassemlby and a very throrough understanding of the transmission. And that can be expensive.
Don't mean to come across as a butthead herel, I just hate to see sooooo much disinformation out there about how many ways there are to do something. We've tried all the kits, every one on the market today. We tried to take shortcuts to control expenses and costs... but the units were not surviving long in the fastest combinations. So why build to a weak level right? ........
That is my two cents.... call me Monday I'll be around the shop all day!

+1 , most quality shops will tell you the transgo with the best there is and the way to go.
do it right the first time...
there's a shop local to me that does trans for a friends dad of mine, they built alot of trannys for strip only cars, and i called them and they said they would not even install a shift kit in a car if it wasn't a transgo... they said if there wasnt one avail for my car they wouldnt put one in. period.
EDIT:
and thats why i voted no. i would vote yes to a shift kit, but no to any kind but a transgo.

I've noticed the B&M kits for the th350 are almost identical to the TransGo.
But take a look at the B&M for the th400 and the TransGo 1&2, WAY different.
I wouldn't use b&m for anything.

Have never seen remarkable results from their shift kits. And I installed my 1st one back in 1982. Just never have been impressed with them.

Exactly my opinion.
B&M makes some great products. Their shift kits are not one of them.
I run a B&M Pro Stick shifter in my car and I love it. So B&M is not all bad.
I too vote for the TransGo shift kit.
With the 60E you wanna use the best stuff you can get.

Mine is very smooth, just like stock under normal driving. But the guy who installed it was very familiar with the kit.

Just an observation, hope it helps in the long run.

Many Tranny builders are adept at installing Trans Go components. Their products have been in the marketplace for may a few decades now. Ya see... it isn't just about reading and following instructions, it is not about being able to take something apart and put it back together. It is about understanding what is going into the unit, what is coming out and why. A TG H/D-2 kit will dramatically improve the operating characteristics of the 4L60E. It was designed to do so.
But remember, to install that kit correctly the unit must be dissassembled. It would be a good time to have a prefessional racing transmission builder do the install so that you get it right the first time!
No good answer here huh.... you want the upgrades but need to build the resources to afford them. I think a shift kit install only would get you down the road for a while... not to mention it is cost prohibitive to have only the kit installed and not the entire group of upgrades inside the unit that take it to the bulletproof level in my opinion. I say be patient, put the converter in and start saving for a replacement unit, then pull the trigger before that one falis.. then you really could have your cake and eat it too!
Good Luck
