Default 700r4 question

Hey guys,
I am building a chevelle bbc car. I wanna get about 650rwhp out of a BBC and am thinking about running this trany, because I am overseas in Germany and got an offer for a $100 complete firebird. Now can I make it a full maual valvebody tranny and still run a lock up conveter on the highway which you can lock up? Also what rpm should the motor be turning in overdrive with 2,73s and 28 inch tires? Will the 700r4 be strong enough?

Thanks,
Ben

It wont be even near strong enough in stock form. Is it a firebird or transam? and what year? I dont think the V6 firebird came with the 700R4. And only the 93 transam did. In 94 they started using the 4L60E which is electronically controlled.

A 700r4 can be built to handle that load... but it will break, and who wants to go through that from time to time.

I would recommend a 4L80E, but they can be pricey. So a TH400 would be the unit of choice for the budget minded guy with a BBC in a Chevelle in my opinion... with those gears it will be very streetable.

Yeah its a 5,0 V8 with a 700r4. Cool I am then gonna plan for a 4l80E or a 6-speed richmond or t-56 (with viper rear). Thanks for the help.

Yeah got a th350 but just dont like the higher rpm on the autobahn (gas prices hurt) and I wanna stay with thoose porsches over 120mph. So the 6-spd or 4L80E would be great.( i know I dont wanna stay to long up there with that extreme bar in the back)
