Default Buying Used Torque Converters???

Sorry if this is a frequently asked question the search wasnt working for me.... All my mods are in my sig, I dynoed the other day ar 410 rwhp and 390 rwtq.... I am now in the market for a new torque converter, specifically a 3600 stall. I have seen a few lying around here and wondering if there are any cons to a used converter?

You don't really know where it has been. If it has particles in it, you could damage your transmission. It is a risk. You could send it back to the manufacturer to be refreshed, and perhaps restalled.

I'm on my 3rd used converter and never had an issue, I just kept going higher!

If you can send it in and get it refreshed though, that may be a great idea.

Same here. I've had my used converter for over 3 years. The member that I bought it from abused it like crazy, and sold it to me for pennies. I took a chance and it hasn't let me down ever since.............

Remember, a converter is just splines/fins that spin fluid..

If you can be sure that it was removed for an upgrade, and not after a tranny failure, there should be no problems with buying a used one at all..

Don't forget the washers , bearings , and lockup clutch !! If you or someone you trust have experience with the converter , it would be best to get it cut open and checked out !!!

Best to buy used verters from people you trust.
I have had both good and bad purchases so I stick with ones I know I can trust.

I will do a refresh on a used converter for you, no matter who originally built it. Price is usually $200-300 if nothing major is wrong, that gets you a new high carbon clutch and bearings. I can even do a stall change if needed, but that would cost a little more. If the converter is junk there is no charge for me to cut it open, but it is open and unusable.
