Default 4L80-E - made a boo boo :-(

Hi there!

Quite a while ago I overhauled my 4L80-E, had a rebuild kit and used almost everything in it. It went fine afterwards... with the exception that the transmission overheats after 30 minutes or so, the oil pan gets as warm as a stoveplate.

Now I've decided to have a look at it again; this far I've only started the car, removed the hose at the oil cooler to see if there's any flow, and indeed it is - with the gear in D it'd probably empty itself in less than 30 seconds. Now I'm not sure what to check next.

I'd be very happy for any thoughts regarding this.

Is your tcc working? Sounds like you might want to address your tune for the transmission. I would get a scan tool on it to see if the command for lockup is being activated. There are valves in the pump and also a valve in the valve body to look at as well.

Many thanks for your reply!

I'll try to get a hold of a scan tool this coming week. I'll get back when I've found out some more.
