Default what is the vent hose line on top of the 4l60e?

Just reinstalled the tranny and I forgot to put back on that vent hose on the top of the tranny, what does it do and how important is it?

It is there to direct the oil if it blows out the transmission. Not a big deal if you do not install it. I've seen it left of before. Vince

So what did you finally wind up doing for a trans?

I got one used from a junkyard for pretty cheap and it definitely fit right. It seems to run just fine. If my stock trans is any indication I'll get about 50,000 more miles out of this one. That's fine with me.

It is really there to allow the trans to breath so to speak. It helps to relieve pressure from the transmissions main case. Without it you would have seals blowing out or oil shooting out the dipstick.

Actually the HOSE is there to EXTEND the VENT TUBE down the torque arm so if fluid does come out it doesn't hit the exhaust and catch on fire.
Now how might I know this? Well I'm guessing but I had a pump bushing push the seal out on a th350, and with no dust cover the fluid went right on the header collector. Which just happened to be wrapped with that DEI crap which acted like a wick for a candle.

That is true on a 4l60. However most 350's that I have seen have a short plastic vent that a hose could not be connected to. In your case the vent was not your problem. The member that started the thread is going to install it so it's all good.
