Default Does anyone purchase a almost dieing trans?

My trans is losign the 3-4 cluch pack from what people told me, and it just recently started to act up. So as I was hunting for a new transmission I noticed that Finish Line Performance Transmissions will buy them... but do I have to buy a transmission from them to purchase mine that is going down the *******... in my opinion. I plan on purchasing a Finish Line Performance Transmission 4l60e level 4, but I'm buying it from a friend that only put 2500 miles on it and is selling it to me for 800$...

Transmission shops buy them, they call them cores. Usually junkyards put all types of transmissions in bins and sell them as cores. Prices range from $20-$300 from what I've been told. I used to buy th400 cores for $40.
