Default 4L60Evs 4L65E

What is the difference between the 4L60E and the 4L65E? Is one stronger than the other? Is the 4L60E and 4L65E the same size, are they the same length? Would I bennifit from upgrading to a 4L65E in my 02 Z28?

Dimensionally they are the same, The main difference is the addition of 5 pinion planets. There were a few other minor upgrades made similar to what you would see in a built 4l60e. But for the most part that is the main change.

What is the role of 5 pinion planets? What's the benefit of it?

They are suposed to be stronger, Though I have heard different veiws on that since there are many high powered vehicles running the 4 pinion without incident.

The five pinion planets are rated to take more torque. I would only suggest using OEM AC Delco ones. There are some cheap knock offs out there so be careful as to what you purchase.

So would a 4L65E be a good upgrade for me if my 4L60E goes out again? I have the 4L60E built once before and I don't want to have to keep worrying about when it is going to go out again. My car is a blot on car right now but I plan on a H/C package in the near future. Or would I be better to go all the way with a 4L80E?
