Default Why is AT fluid circulated through 2 coolers?

I was following the AT fluid lines on my car today and noticed that after the fluid exited the large cooler in front of the radiator, the lines entered a chamber located in the side tank on the radiator before exiting and finally leading back to the transmission.

I've seen this before on other vehicles, what is the purpose of this?

The cooler in the raditor is considered the main cooler and all cars have thatone stock , The cooler on the outside is considered and auxilary cooler.
