Default was there a th375 produced after 1976?

I know the real ones have 375THM cast under the tailhousing, and use thicker apply pistons and fewer clutches than a th400. and a 27 spline output.
Then the ones that came out in the late 80's and early 90's had the same tail housing with nothing cast onto it, same tailshaft, but was other wise same as a th400 and was called a th400, not a th375.
Can anyone verify this as being true?

the ones without the 375 cast into the housing were in the SS454 trucks. and they were th400s
