Default shims between converter and flexplate?

i was wondering if its ok to put shims between the converter and flexplate to set the neck properly into the tranny? i brought my truck to a preformance shop where PI made a converter for the 4l80 swap but in order to make it sit right it needs some shims. the shop said it was ok...what you guys think?

I've never seen a tranny that needed shims to make the converter sit far enough into the pump. It sounds to me like there might be a problem with the converter. If it were my car, I would have a real problem using the shims.

I would be contacting PI to see what their thoughts are. I personally like to see an 1/8 to 3/16 but closer to an 1/8 with a 4l80e. These units ran pretty tight from the factory. Much tighter than a 4l60e from what I have seen from the wear on the pump gears in virgin units. Vince

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would contact PI about it, though. Maybe you can get a precision piece, but generally shims can create vibration that you don't want.
