Default has anyone heard of an A4 shifting 5 times

a4 shifting 5 gears either theirs a trick when u get your tranny built to where u dont need a converter and make it shift 5 times ...i dont know any help...

The closest thing I have heard to that is if it set up to lock the converter after 4th gear at a higher speed. But then that would only be 4 shifts . Cant help you there.

maybe it's slipping in and out of gears? might be a bad thing!

It is very likely that what you heard of or felt is the converter clutch locking up. Depending on the converter stall it will be more apparent. In a low stall setup it can and will feel like another gear has engaged. In a high stall converter setup it may not be noticeable.

We set our converter clutch lock up circuits to apply firmly, we don't like seeing converter clutches slipping and wiping out our units.

ok, because i took a ride in a friend of mines car and i felt 5 shifts and it felt like it shift twice in one of those gears

sounds like to me someone removed the ball and capsule from the input shaft and removed the tcc modulated apply which will make the lockup feel like a 5th gear

lockup makes it seem like it has a 5th gear...hold it in 1 then 2 then 3 then od and count all them then keep in od and see if it shifts again... (dont have to do this a wot...please dont)
