85-87 700R4 Convertor in a 1999 4L60E (for a V6)
Ok, here's the deal. My torque convertor in my 1999 3.8V6 Camaro (daily driver) is starting to crap out. We're building up a 71 Camaro and we have an extra convertor now since it needed a higher stall. The convertor is free to me if there's any way I can use it.
The transmission is (*believed to be*) a 1985-1987 700R4.
No doccuments, but the owner thinks it has a B&M Torque Convertor.
He counted 30 Splines
Stall is estimated to be 1800-2200 RPM.
I have a 99 model Camaro with a 3.8.
I'm not 100% sure that the 4L60E is from a 99 or not, car was rebuilt before I got it. When I changed the fluid and filter, it took a 1996 model year filter (according to Advance Auto), and I know that the filter for the 99 didn't fit.
If there's any way for me to make this work, what do I need to look out for. I know that somebody is thinking "use the search"....... I did. From what I can gather, there is a spacer that the pre 98 4L60E's use, but that's for V8 cars.... I really don't know what to expect here, but I don't have a ton of cash laying around right now, but still want to do it right. Advance wants 350+ for a torque convertor, and I can't see me paying that right now for the crap they sell.
