Drag racing with stock 4L60E and stock converter
So I am taking my 99 Z28 A4 to the track for the first time tomorrow. I have never drag raced an auto car before at the track. What do you guys think I should do shifting wise? Should I just put it in D or OD and hit the gas or should I drop it down into 1 or 2 and shift it into D or OD during the race? What do you think will be quicker? I am going to probably try both methods but kind of want to know what to expect when doing this. Thanks in advance.

Same for me as well . I got better 60 ft's with same technique versus brake stalling.

Awesome, thanks guys. I will give it a shot a few different ways but now I know which way should be the fastest. Thanks again.
Another question for ya. Did any of you do a small power brake burnout to clean off the tires a little or should I just pull around the water box and just drive right up to the staging beams? In my manual cars I have always done a very small 2-3 rotation burnout to clean the tires off a little but with an auto I don't know that this is neccessary. What do you think?

With E/T streets I would take them a little further into it than a couple of rotations. I would think that it is wholly going to depend on the track conditions, tire pressure, etc...
But, the trick here is going to be to not change too many things at one time... Going from an M6 - A4 change is huge.... don't change the tires you are used to running just yet!
You will have your hands full getting used to not rowing gears and just enjoying the ride!
