Default 4l65E WOT overdrive shift, DEAD!

OK, here's what I got...
2006 GTO
P1SC @ 8psi w/ meth
Kooks 1 7/8" catless w/ 3" header back exhaust
Ford 8.8" rear (IRS), Trutrac, 4.56 gear
Weld 15"X10" 7.5" BS rear with a 275/50/15 MT DR, skinnies on front
3840lbs with driver
no idea on HP/TQ
car has 22k miles

After i got the 8.8 installed, it lasted about 3k miles. I figgured this was going to happen. It hit the rev limiter while shifting into overdrive @ 110mph. I immediately backed off, thinking, Thar she blows! I stopped, checked the fluid, no burnt smell or discoloration that I could tell. I got back home, pulled her in the shop, changed the fluid, and it looked a *little* dark, not strange smelling or anything. I did continue to drive the car about 200 more miles last week, the slipping got worse. It then began to slip in 3rd, so It's parked now.

My question- Will one of the sponsors be able to build a 4l65e trans to hold up in my application? Last summer before the headers and the gear swap I made about 8 passes at the local 1/8th mile. I guess I'll average about 10 to 15 passes next year. I don't drive the pi$$ out of it, not all of the time. I have another DD now and will expect to only put about 6k mi. a year on it.

Thanks for your help/ suggestions.

Suggestion: Get rid of those 4.56 gears.
I guess you have your reasons to run that deep of a ratio, but it put you into OD at 110 MPH according to your story. I have had it hammered into my head to never shift into OD @ WOT.
Running a 9" in mine with Detroit Locker and 3.70 gears. Even with the juice I will still be in 3rd gear going thru the traps at 135 plus MPH. These 4L60E/4L65E trannies will EAT the 3-4 clutch packs at WOT.

I would be happy to discuss this build with you. Apparently what you have experienced is failure of the 3/4 clutch pack. It is possible that the band burned, but more than likely the clutches are gone. It is not at all abnormal in a stock application to see that happen.

Give me a call and I'll help you make your decision.

Those gears are low but a well built 60 or 65e should be able to handle what your doing . And any of the sponsors here including us should be able to handle the task. Give me a call if you would like to ask questions or of you have yahoo messenger.
Thanks

Ok not that I will ever really be abusing mine on the 3-4 shift with my 3.15 gears but if your tranny is built can you still not do the 3-4 shift at WOT?

I have an FLP Level 4

You might wanna ask vince but I see no reason why you couldnt. You would however have to program your PCM to allow it .

With a high performance built trans like yours, you have the best clutches in it money can buy. You still should'nt make a habit of going WOT thru the 3-4 shift, but if you happen to be in a highway race with a Lambo or whatever and just have to kill him, you can get away with it. How many times? Roll the dice, because GM has known aboiut this weak link and in the stock PCM I have been told they won't allow that WOT 3-4 shift. Not sure if that's true, but GM tends to protect their cars from abuse and warranty work that they can avoid.

I'm using EFILIVE and I have tuned the TCM for WOT OD. I'm running this gear because most of the local tracks are 1/8th mi. And, I just love the pull on the bottom.
I work offshore in Nigeria, I won't be back in Mississippi until December 20th. I just want to minimize my downtime. I'll be sending you guys a PM, Thanks ACE and Performabuilt.

I actually have done it a few times, now that I think of it. It hits as hard 3-4 as it does in the other gears!
