Default need 4L60E recomendations

Hi, 01 z28, stock 60e ran 11.42 @ 121 w/100 shot all stock except catback and air lid. Just installed 2800 vig and 3.73. Can tell the days on my stock trans are numbered. Looking to maybe go to a procharger in the spring. 425 rwhp w/n2o. figuring around 500 w/procharger and no juice. Do I stay with someones built 4l60e? go to an 80e? who has had good/bad experiences with what vendors. I am not concerned about the price, just want something I don't have to remove from the car every week!! thanx, Bob

Great question Bob.

Typically we do not see the 4L60E get into trouble in the 500 H/P range. It is actually not too hard to get them to live in that environment. Usually we would want to see better planets, a deep pan for more fluid capacity and obviously a cooler. If you get over say 550 - 600 we would start to discuss shafts and other options.

However, if you should choose to build an 80 you would not have to limit yourself in the power dept. Obviously 500+ H/P is a blast on the street, but if you wanted to get serious and step it up next fall or winter then the 80E would be the way to go now.

With the rwhp you are shooting for a 4l60e can handle it. We have quite a few of 9 second 4l60e cars out there. These cars do get raced hard every year and do come in for freshen ups every year or so. But that is just the nature of the 4l60e. I do not think an 80 is really needed for what you are doing. Vince

I would agree a well built 4l60e should be able to handle your power. Not dont get me wrong a 4l80e would be great if you plan of building more but exspensive.
