Default No trans temp gauge.. Safe??

I just got my car back 3 days ago and its my first time in a stalled car. I did have a tranny cooler installed with it, but how hot do these things get? Everywhere I live I am surrounded by hills. I am worried that it my be stalling out to much... Should I try and get the car in OD as quick as possible or should I just let it do its thing and not worry with it?

Thanks,
Ryan

It's usually not an issue. You can shift into 3rd and it will lock around 35 mph and stay locked down to 30ish and in OD you should lock up around 40mph and stay locked down to 35ish, so as long as it's locked there is no slippage so it won't be heating up near as much.

I live in East TN, pretty good ways back in here too There is no other way to get to my house other than climbing that huge hill that is bout a mile long and rough as hell! lol.. I have noticed the converter will lock up in D sometimes, I thought these things were just supposed to when in OD. So, you think when I am running around here I should just keep the car in D and try to keep it locked in as much as possible to keep down the heat??

I DD a Yank PT4400. I run two coolers and my temps rarely see over 160 in the city. That's in cooler weather with 3.23's. I will have 3.90's or 4.10's in the spring to help tighten things up. It gets wicked hot in the summer, so I'll be watching my gauge closely. Last summer I was running a SS4000 and my temps were fine even in the heat.

You should be ok without a gauge but its a great piece of mind to have one.
