Doesit just stay stuck in second or does it go into neutral where it should shift to third?

So you have scanned it ?
Hmm odd if the shift to third was comanded and didnt hapen it should set a code for that, I would get it on a scanner or tuner and see whats being comanded first thing.

Are you SURE it's shifting from first to second and not first to third, skipping second gear entirely?

Ok put on a scanner and see if its being commanded that would be the next step. if its is then there a problem with the trans likley. Then Once you have checked for codes and see that 3rd is being comanded. Unplug the harness plug from the trans , This should force third hear all the time except when in manual second or first in whch case it will start in second , But if in D or OD it should always be in 3rd gear.

i couldnt figure it out i had to bring it somewhere. they said if the tranny was bad it would cost about $2200 for a rebuild. i could probably buy another one for less than that!

Yep! A very well built unit would be less than the price you were quoted. of course I don't know what their build specs are... but I think yu're on the right track.

Give me a call if you are interested in replacing it. I'll be here another hour or so and then I will be in all day tomorrow as well.

you could find a good used stock tranny for under 500 bucks in the fs section. ask some of your local sponsors too
