Default Thinking FLT...

I'm going with an Heads/Cam setup from TSP and plan on spraying nitrous in the near future. I plan on making around the 500-600rwhp. I am wanting to get the level 4 but wanted to know if this trans will be able to hold up to that kind of power? It seems like FLT is among the best as far as performance goes. I will be using a Yank SS4000 along with this trans.

Thanks!

This is just my personal opinion but I think it'll last a lot longer if that number is closer to the 500 then if it's closer to 600. But you are right about FLT being one of the best. FLT, Rossler, RPM and Performabuilt all make the strongest 4L60E's around. You can't go wrong with any of them.

But consider your long term goal. Are you looking for 600 or more rwhp and very low 10's or even 9's for ET's? If so the TH400 or 4L80E will probably save you a lot of money in the long run. Guys have gotten 4L60E's into the high 9's but they never last long. Even if it lasts a season you'd be buying a new transmission every single year.

Are you content with mid to high 10 ET's and 500ish rwhp? If so then I think a max built 4L60E can and have had far more success. You could use a window switch and set it up to not spray through the shift. That'll help extend the life of the transmission as well.

Good luck.

Not with us! We offer a freshen up special to those with FLT units. $250 labor plus parts. It is a great deal and usually is $600-$1000 to have them redone depending on the damage. We have many vehicles running in the 9's. Our customers bring them in to be refreshed which does not cost the amount of a new trans. I just had a unit come in that runs consistent 9.70 @ 140+ that was built in June of 06 and ran that # all of 07. It is in a twin turbo C5 and it was not broke or slipping when the guy dropped it off from what he said. He is just getting ready for the next race season and wanted the trans gone through. This is a daily driver(20K), street car(street racing passes) and a track car(150 passes). I asked the customer how much use he got out of it and that is what he said. I myself was very impressed with the amount of use he got out of it. I can't wait to get it apart and see how every thing looks. I do agree that a th400 or an 80 would be a good choice but 500-600 at the tires is not anything that we are scared of in a 3000-4000lb vehicle. Just a heads up. Vince

I would think with the spray, the Level 5 might be the better choice. With free shipping right now, it's a great time to get an FLT unit. They have been here the longest and proven themselves countless times.....no other tranny maker can say that. PM Vince, he'll let you know which level would work best for you. He will go out of his way to make sure you are getting the right package.

FLT L5 that Vince sprinkled pixie dust or something on... I'm hitting this tranny pretty hard (see 60ft) and it's taking it just fine. An even 600rwhp and 603rwtq in a FULL weight car, 240lb driver, 3.42s on 28 inch tall DRs...

How long have you had it? How many miles on the tranny? How many track passes?
