Default 4L60E problems

Tonight I was on my way to work and my car was only at about 1/4 of the way up on the temp gauge so things were still a little cold but when I got on the highway I got in it and when it went to shift from 1st to 2nd it started banging the limiter. I let out of it and it shifted into second then it went to 3rd and OD. I went down the road a little and went to kick it down to see what would happen and it kicked into second then started slipping so I was like WTF??!! So I kept driving it and third and OD were all still there not slipping a bit but still witht the second slippage. When I got to work I checked the fluid and it was low. Do you think this could be my prob just low fluid? If I top it off in the morning do you think It will start acting right again?? I sure hope so, I really don't feel like building this thing right now whilke its like 20 below!! I talked to a friend and he said that it could have to do with it being so cold and the fluid being thick and not being able to pass through the filter fast enough starving the pump. What do you guys think??

In 60E there is no such thing as a little low. I would make sure its full then drive and see what happens, With these units fluid level is all important there is little room for error
