trans temp guage sender in pressure port and temps take forever to rise
So I just got done installing my electric trans temp guage and sender. I put the sender in the pressure port on the side of the trans. The guage works fine and the needle goes up but it takes forever to do so. For the guage to show anything above 110 degree's or so I have to do city driving for at least 15-20 minutes before it ever rises and even then the highest I have seen the guage is 150 degree's. If I am on the freeway cruising at freeway speeds the guage never goes above 110 or so. I am in virginia and it has been 40 degrees or colder for the past week or so since I got the guage installed so I am maybe thinking thats why it takes forever to get warm and why I am only seeing 150 degree's. Most people on here I have seen with guages say theres reads about 180 degrees most of the time but maybe that is in the summer time. What do you guys think?

That's normal. It's been pretty cool here in Arkansas and my tranny takes its sweet old time getting warm as well. My sending unit is mounted in my feed line to the cooler. Driving back and forth to work doesn't even register a temp. Cruising on the highway stays right at 100-105*. City might warm up to 150.

Thats what I thought but wanted to see what you professionals thought. I did bypass the radiator cooler and I am running the standalone Hayden cooler in my sig. I read that in super cold conditions this can actually be harmful to the trans because the trans oil is so cold and thick all the time. You don't think that I will have problems with this in 30-40 degree weather do you? Thats the coldest it ever gets in VA really. When it is down in the 30's I always start the car and let it idle for 10 min or so before I drive it anyway so I am guessing that should help heat up the fluid a bit before I drive it. Any thoughts on this?

At those temps I dont think you will have any problem , To really be and issue you would have to get to subzero temperatures or lower. I have heard people say the fluidl will freeze in the cooler at super low temps but I really doubt that you could find anywhere cold enough in the COUNTRY if at all since when you think about it if the fluid froze in the cooler wouldnt it be froze in the pan when you strated the car to begin with ? Though really cold temps may affect shift feel somewhat . I have never seen frozen transmission fluid anyway lol.

Last time I cruised to the track in November I thought my temp gauge was broke. it took like 40min of highway cruising to get above 100 degrees lol. I dont think its that harmful to trans to worry about it. I mean even if the gauage isnt reading, you gotta figure the temp is hanging in the 80-90 range so the fluid isnt that thick.

yeah cold won't bother the trans at all. Heck I daily drive my car and even sub zero temps have never been a problem.. in fact just yesterday I drove to the bank. how cold was it? Here is a screen capture of the HPT Data log just after startup. the trans was at 0 Deg F and air temp -4.. it shifted just the same as always and had no problems.. thats with an FLT tranny, Vig 3600, with a hayden cooler and stock cooler/warmer still in use. If you want the trans to run warmer in the cold rehook the stock cooler because it uses the cars coolant it actually acts as a warmer in cold temps.

My trans wont go over 150 degrees in the 20 deg weather and it takes beating on it to get there. My sending unit is in the pressure port also. According to EFI live my trans temps are actually cooler than what my pressure port reads which is fine with me. I'd rather know when its hotter

75 degrees here....tranny was 125 on the highway. barely got it to 140 after getting off the interstate. i got it to 180 the other night letting it idle for about an hour in the driveway. was about 75 to 80 out with awful humidity. btw mine is in the pan.
