Default should I change out the tranny oil...

Alright first off I tried searching and couldnt find what I was looking for...Im sure this has been said many times, but I tried..anyways Ive got 132xxx on my 02 silverado with 4:56 gears and 35's...Ive been contimplating about changing out the oil/filter/gasket..

anwyays Its got a lot of miles and about 115k of the miles is with the lift and tires, its probably got a good 60k of the miles pulling a 6500lb trailer. I took it has zero problems right now and still works great, but if I switch the oil out will it help or hurt the tranny? I know next to nothing when it comes to trannys besides they suck to work on. what do you guys think, keep the viscosity in the oil the same since all the clutches and everything is used to whats in it now?

I had it checked from a tranny shop to see if anythings wearing out or if it will need service anytime soon and the guy diagnosed it and said hes surprised that it still is like new...

anwyays i got a programmer that i firmed up the shifts a little bit since i figured it would help...thanks in advance and sorry if this is a retarded question-Venom

It would only be a waste of time if you changed the fluid after it is hurt.

Proper maintenance intervals is smart money.

Answer me this.... how many times has the fluid been changed in your transmission that you know of?

Point is, as sure as I am very confident you'll not have issues after a service, you will. If I recommend to leave it alone and do nothing, it will have issues.

This is another subject that goes right back to ones expectations. If you expect the unit to be a high mileage piece.

well there arent any problems at all right now, Im just about to drive cross country and back with it in the next couple of months so i was doing some preventative maintenance... I talked to my buddy about it (previous owner) and he said not to change it because thats when stuff starts going wrong... he knows more about trannys than I do so im mostly taking his word for it, but Im trying to get the experts opinion about this..

I just had my th350 blow on me two weeks ago in my jeep, 3 days before it sold...when I took the pan and filter off a good buddy of mine who is a master technician told me that the plastic crap in the filter were the torque rings or something like that, thrust washer, I dont know, but there was no warning signs/slipping or anything before it goes caboom! anyways I sold the jeep for 500 less. But I am kinda worrying about the tranny in my truck since its been lugging trailers and 35's around for a long...long time

If you have never changed the fluid,Don't.With that many miles it surely needs a little attention,Never had a reaction shell installed?Hard to believe.

reaction shell? lol dude engines and suspension is my game... I hate working on trannys and leave that to the pros...its been changed once I believe.

Ive put shift kits in and switched out valve bodies and filters and gaskets and simple stuff like that...but everytime I have worked on a tranny I wanted to suck on a 12 guage because I just dont have the patience for it

lol dude your askin the wrong guy! just take what you can get from these other guys that know trannys...

I called Gilbert at ACE Racing and he told me that as long as fluid in the tranny hasnt been compromised and everything is still good in the transmission then normal maintenance is fine. but its also on a case by case scenario. Im just going to take his advice and bring it to him and have them check over my tranny to make sure its all good.

Right now I have zero problems with it, but again im gonna be putting about 5k miles on her in the next 4 months driving to Yorktown, VA from TX, then back after 9 weeks, then somewhere else after that. I might have him just do an overhaul on it and have it upgraded so I wont have to even think about it.
