Default All 4L80e owners, I need feed back please

I am needing a new tranny and really want to go with a 4l80 but i hear they rob a lot of power, but at the same time they are built proof. I just want feedback from those who actually have them. Please give me the pro's and con's. Thanks

best thing since sliced bread, buy it
And if your that concerned about it robbing power, you probably dont have enough to warrant its use in the first place. If you have enough power to need an 80, its pretty obvious to not give a **** if its going to take more to turn, thats just the nature of the beast

Local guy. But that has nothing to do with it. FLT and Yank can build you a kickass 4L80. I am looking to go to a full E with brake this next round. But my MVB 4L80 hasnt let go so far so Im pretty much happy with it.

Yup this is what I am doing to minus the MVB though, keeping electronics mainly since its a street car but a MVB would be fun to drive too.

I took the electronics out to try the MVB. It is pretty dam fun to be honest with you. Once your use to it,Its simple to drive. But yea as soon as this one dies (If ever) FLT will get my business.

For sure the MVB would be fun as hell to drive, thats the main reason I wanted a th400. Why not get one with an overdrive though, hence 4l80e! ?Mine should suffice for the power level you say as well. When and if it lets go I will probably turn to FLT as well. I am not worried about it at all though but **** does happen. Should see a lil more life from me as well with minimal use and hardly ever at the track. Just a fun toy to get into trouble with

Did you go with the TransGo Stg 3 kit? I have been looking into that one. Does it mess with your converter lock up or anything? I really like a MVB. I have a solid 4L80E on the way.

Hughes built mine for 900rwtq and I am happy with it but have not tested that high yet. They put the Transgo shift kit in it as part of the build. Lockup works fine and the tuning is sweet - Grandma shifts programmed in until I hit 47% TPS (where my secondaries kick in on the 4bbl throttle), then I have it switch to Kill.

My converter lockup is just a switch. After fourth gear the relay will pickup via a microswitch and if I have the switch on I can lock it up. If the switch is off it stays unlocked. Real easy to do.

That would be the best way of doing it instead of hardwiring it to a switch like I've heard of some doing and forgetting about it and overheating the trans.
