A Rare, Rare Thing These Days...
Every now and then you stumble upon a business unlike any other and wonder why cant they all be like that...
While driving on the autobahn at a mere 60 miles an hour (military in Germany), my tranny decided it no longer wanted to play with 3rd and 4th gear anymore. I was shocked at that moment and then pissed that $2800 dollars just went down the toilet and not only that, it only had 1100 miles on it.
Living in Germany I didn't have many options...The builder said that is was still under warranty and would be happy to fix it. Problem was it was about $400 dollars shipping one way. I could take it to the local guy who fixes BMW trannys or I could try it myself. Being an aircraft mechanic by trade, I tossed the idea around of doing it myself and most people said "I wouldn't if I were you" or "I think thats a bad idea".....of course I also got the "Call so and so and be done with it!" posts...But there was one who said "If your really want to tackle it yourself, lets go for it." So we did.
Parts were ordered, a few special tools were needed and a lot of time waiting for stuff to get here from the states. (Mail is horrible here) Each step was throughly explained and I reported back what I found with pictures or measurements. This went off and on 2 or 3 times a week for several weeks....
Then one day I thought about it. Not one time did I get a "you'de be better off just buying on of our units" or "Im too busy to help right now"
and I never felt like the "new guy" when I asked questions. I never promised a single cent and he never asked for it either.
Today, about 3 hours ago, I finished reinstalling the tranny in the car and it works perfectly!!! I added 2 new coolers and a temp gauge so I can also see whats going on. I cant possibly express how grateful I am that a total stranger would take literally hours explaining, detailing and ensuring that
I left no stone unturned, no cause unnoticed and for that I want to say "THANK YOU!" to Frank and everyone else at PERFORMABUILT!! An operation
like that is hard to find nowadays.
Bottom line: If a business is willing to go to such lengths for a person who never gave a dime to them, I can only imagine what they would
do for a customer. I have absolutely no doubt that I would be taken care of far beyond most other businesses. Frank, you did an excellent job...thanks for making problems disappear!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

When I had problems with my trans Which was not even theirs,Frank still offered me help, and reassured me that the vendor(non sponsor) I bought it from would help as well(broken tailshaft). He did not bash anyone,Or try to sell me his,but just truly wanted to get my car up and runnin. My trans is doing fine, but I do have a bigger cam going in and may be going larger with my stall,OR one designed to hold a good shot of spray.Just need to decide if I stay N/A or spray big. Guess who is getting that sale.

When i was looking for a tranny to buy i searched everywhere to see of any problem with them but couldnt find one. Called to order, he was busy on the other line so i figured i would call back in an hour, didnt leave my name or number and Frank called back in less the 5 minutes. Cant wait to get my Level 2 trans, will recommend performabuilt to all the Fbody people i know.

It's a good business practice.
Although he didn't make anything from you, look at all the people who are going to give him business for what he does for others.
It's good for everyone in the end, and it's great to see there are a few still out there.
I think all three transmission sponsors on this site are pretty damn good.

WRT to specialist tools, here are the ones I made myself for the 700r4. Even figured an easy way of fitting solid teflon seals on the input shaft.
