GIYF, as usual ... use "stall converter video" as the
search string - you'll get plenty of hits.

and older one when the car only had stock manifolds but still the same Vig 3600. 20-75 full throttle this was on regular street tires.. 255/50's.

OK - so I just got a car with a 4500 stall in it a few months ago but it's in a th350. I didnt know if it was the th350 that shifted the way it does or the fact that it was the stall, but i'm thinking it's the stall.

Tell me if i'm right here - My old Z used to drop the rpms after a shift under WOT a lot further down than what this th350 with the stall does. Is that the stall working? I notice a lot of the videos show the rpms staying relatively high after the shift - is that the purpose of the stall?

No - how much drop in RPM you get after a shift depends on the gear ratios of the transmission. close ration gears will give you less drop in RPM after a shift, while a wider ratio trans will give you more drop. The 4L60E has pretty wide ratios of gears, and consequently more drop in RPM. The TH350 is a bit closer. The stall converter makes the engine rev up faster in its RPM range once you step on the gas. Notice in the videos how quick RPM climbed once the driver hit the throttle.

ok - so why does their 4l60es seem to shift so quick and not lose rpms like my old one did?

Yes it is the stall working. With a higher stall you get a higher shift extention meaning the RPMs dont drop as much between shifts. With the factory stall the 1-2 shift would drop to around 4000. With the 3600 stall that I have they only drop to about 5100~5200 RPMs.

thats what i wanted to hear. I love the way the car shifts, but i want a 4l60e for a few different reasons, and wanted to make sure the stalled 4l60e would work just the same. Thanks!

This lack of rpm drop makes things much smoother, - my 97z had a hard shift and i broke 3 tranny mounts b/c of it, so with a stall that shouldn't happen as often if at all, correct?

Anybody using an aftermarket shifter for their 4l60e?

Here is another vid.. daily driving just cruising in traffic with a bit of goofing around at the end.

dochall22.. Yes Looser Stall will cushion the shifts so it won't be as hard on driveline. as far as the shifter I don't know but I'm sure someone here has done it successfully.
