Yes it does require a PCM to operate, I would suggest the 700R4 for what your trying to do .

That or you need a tranny control unit like TCI makes.
But I think with the carb setup might as well just go
mechanical on the trans too. Lockup actuation is a
question though.

you would not need a computer and lockup can be handled in several ways. You would need a TV cable suggest LOKAR for that

Well lockup is a clutch in the converter that eliminate converter slip while cruising , We have solutions for that. As for the TV cable its a cable that goes to the carb that controls line presure and shift points with the 700r4. LOKAR is a company that makes cables for various OEM and retro situations like yours.

I have a similar situation. Considering options in my 1963 Chevy Biscayne ( Impala ) Wagon . I would love to do the LSx swap with the elec trans but dont knwo about the costs. Saw a video on V8TV of a guy with a carb'd 68 Camaro running a 4l60e with the padle shifters.

Not worth it or? I wont be going to paddle shifters imediately but like the idea of that option down the road. That and it seems I can buy a 4l80e and not have to worry about it handleing the power. Any advice would be great.

Will this be enough to run the 4L80E without PCM control?

Yes it will, However if you want lockup you will have to make arangments for it also. What are you putting the 80e in ?

It will go behind an LS7 in a street/strip Camaro but it's not a DD. It's a weekend car.

So, how do I keep the lockup for some 4th gear cruising.

I will probably get a truck 4L80E, so, what spline is the rear shaft compared to 4L60E and what do I need to connect to my drive shaft?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if make your 4L60E a full manual valve body (I think its TransGo HD-3) then theres no need for a computer?

Also wondering the same. I will have a 4L60e in a car that has the trans wiring but no pcm to control it. I have seem some of the controllers control the lockup with a toggle?

You just brought up a 10-year old thread to ask something you could've typed into Google and got an answer immediately.
