First you need to make sure the PCM is adjusted for the 3.73 gears. Generally the stock lockup points are too low for a big stall and can be bumped up by about 5 mph. However, the actual shift points are really dependent on your actual setup and driving habits/preferences.

ive tuned mine to only lock up in 4th, and at 40mph. this helps my cam from bucking some at low throttle and higher gear

Mine is similar (slightly higher), but the lockup mph varies by a couple of mph depending on the TPS %. I would think with a 3600 he should be able to still use 3rd gear lockup.

Definitely a rough guess. Hopefully you have tuning software so you can drive and adjust to suit your needs. IMO that's the only way to get the shifting nailed down correctly.

My converter had clutch chatter when it locked up at 38, 40, and currently 42 mph.

I've tried two different tuners and used three different mph's and I still have a little clutch chatter.
